Post-Surgery T-Rex Arms
Our team name is inspired by our own tight, weak arms after adult open heart surgery and how little we could do with them- They reminded us of a T-Rex dinosaur's arms! :)
We are so glad we reached out to the Adult Congenital Heart Association for support! Some of us reached out to meet local adults with CHD through ACHA when we first discovered that we weren't "fixed" or "corrected" and would need surgery or intervention "sometime in the future." Some of us connected with their Heart to Heart Peer Support program during preparation for surgery and throughout recovery.
Adult Congenital Heart Association was a fantastic resource for us- Providing support that understood our young adult and adult lives and definitely helps us advocate for ourselves!
We want every adult with congenital heart defects to have access to the same fantastic support and encouragement that we did. So Adult Congenital Heart Association needs us to pave the way for others by walking and raising funds here in Colorado!
We hope you celebrate our recoveries with us by joining the team! Friends, family, and anyone who wants to celebrate our recoveries, their own recoveries, or the recoveries of loved ones are welcome to join our team! -Or heck, future recoveries that you know you'll need "sometime in the future!" Congenital heart disease is lifelong, but Team Post-Surgery T-Rex Arms fully supports celebrating and finding humor along the way!
We also have a silly dance we might do at the Walk, if the DJ can get their hands on the new Hawaii Five-0 theme song. One of us watched *a lot* of that show during recovery. :) (Glad to teach the dance to everyone- it's easy, no matter how much or how little you can move your arms!)
We can't wait to give back to Adult Congenital Heart Association this year, because it's been a vital part of our journey and helped us in SO many ways-
Thank you so much for your love & support!
