I've lived my entire life with a heart murmur. It had never caused me issues or so I thought. Last September, I developed symptoms which resembled COVID. I checked myself into the hospital and began treatment for COVID but was told that I didn't have it but more likely had an underlying heart issue. Over the next 5 1/2 months I went through a battery of tests until it was determined I had not one but two faulty valves and a hole in my heart likely there since birth that had never closed.
At the end of March, my surgeon repaired both valves and closed the hole in my heart. In the hospital, I lost over 80# in two weeks mostly water weight, healthier eating habits and probably some fat and muscle loss as well. I rested and recovered at home for weeks. Then almost 12 weeks ago I started cardiac rehabilitation. With their careful oversight and monitoring from my cardiologist and therapists, my heart has been getting stronger and stronger.
Prior to surgery, I couldn't walk 100 feet. For the last 18 weeks I have been exercising for 6-7 days a week for 30-135 minutes a day increasing my speed, incline, and cardio resistance. Today I feel fantastic with only 3 sessions left..
Had the cardiologist not scanned my heart last September, I might not be here today. I've truly been given a second chance.
Thank you in advance for your support.
