All About Me...
Did you know that 1 in 100 babies are born with a congenital heart defect, making it the most common birth defect?!?!
I am one of those 1 in 100! I'm Emily and I was born with Shone's complex, a rare and complex heart defect. I've had four open-heart surgeries and countless procedures throughout my life. Thanks to the advances in cardiac surgery and the emergence of the field of adult congenital cardiology, I have been fortunate to live a vibrant and thriving life. I went to culinary school, opened a restaurant, hiked Machu Picchu, lived and worked abroad, earned my Master's degree and married my college sweetheart.
I am four years post-my-last-open-heart surgery and am now bionic with two mechanical valves! I am so grateful to the Adult Congenital Heart Association for all they do to improve access to care while empowering and enabling members of the CHD community to become their own best advocate.
Please consider supporting me in this virtual challenge of making pie for local heroes. All donations go to ACHA (not to pie making ingredients) and will enable ACHA to continue their important work for the CHD community, including funding their ACHD hospital accreditation program, CHD-specific research, and an incredible peer mentorship program.
